WISCASSET, Maine (WGAN) A Standish man was taken into custody Monday after police say he led officers on a high-speed pursuit reaching speeds of over 100 MPH.

Police say 21-year-old Pasquale Lapomarda gave chase after a Maine State Trooper saw his vehicle exceeding the speed limit on Rt. 1 in Brunswick around 4 p.m.

Police learned about multiple reports of erratic driving describing the same vehicle on I-295 in Freeport before the trooper encountered it. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver took off.

The pursuit ended when police used spike strips, causing Lapomarda’s vehicle to come to a stop in front of Big Al’s on Rt. 1 in Wiscasset.

The driver was taken to the hospital to be evaluated and was charged with eluding an officer, criminal speed, passing a roadblock, and reckless conduct.
