Portland announces new interim police chief

Portland has named a new interim police chief.

The city announced Thursday that Robert Martin, who’s currently serving as Interim Assistant Chief, will take over as Chief on an interim basis after Heath Gorham retires from the force at the end of the month.

Gorham has been serving as interim chief since the departure of Chief Frank Clark in November of 2021.

In a statement, Gorham said “My time as interim chief was not without challenges. I am grateful for the dedication and professionalism of the Portland Police Department staff.”

Gorham has accepted a position as a senior public safety consultant at a consulting firm.

The job posting for a permanent police chief in Portland is still open.
