A new apartment building in downtown Portland will be the tallest building in the state once it’s completed, reaching 18 stories.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the city’s planning board unanimously approved construction of the apartment building on Tuesday.

The 190-foot building will be built at the corner of Temple and Federal Streets, and will add 260 rental units to the housing market.

The City Council approved a zoning change to allow the project, because the city’s rules normally don’t allow housing units higher than 14 floors or 150 feet.
