The public will get a chance to weigh in on a slew of referendum proposals in Portland.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the Portland City Council will hold public hearings Monday on five citizen-initiated proposals. Those include another minimum wage hike, new restrictions on short-term rentals and limits on cruise ships passengers.

Four of the five proposals were brought forward by the Maine chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.

One proposal would raise the minimum wage in the city to $18 an hour by 2025.

Councilors will either adopt the proposed initiatives, or come up with competing measures that will appear on the ballot.
