The Portland City Charter Commission has submitted its final report, which could result in changes to the balance of power in city government.
According to the Portland Press Herald, the commission on Wednesday submitted 13 recommended changes, which were consolidated into eight proposed ballot questions.
The commission convened last June to review and recommend changes to the city charter.
They suggested giving more power to the mayor, which would mean more involvement in crafting the city budget, as well as the power to nominate department heads and veto council ordinances.
It would also remove some powers and responsibilities from the City Manager, who would report to the Mayor instead of the City Council.
The City Council will review the changes to determine how they’ll be printed on the ballot.
