A Portland firm has its sights set on a block in downtown Portland for a new development project.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the firm, Reger Dasco Properties of Portland, says the $200 to $300 million development would be built at the former printing plant for the newspaper. The development dubbed “Herald Square” would feature about 300 condos, a 150-room hotel, shops and parking.

Pending approval from the Portland Planning Board, the firm says the first phase of construction likely wouldn’t get underway until next year.

Joe Dasco told the paper they’ll have to consider how best to comply with the city’s zoning restrictions, which require a certain portion of units to be affordably priced or for the developers to pay into a city housing fund instead.
