Portland Homeless Man Accused of Assaulting an Officer

A 33-year-old homeless man faces charges after Portland Police say he assaulted an officer.

Police say they recognized Nicholas Lavoie, who had several warrants for arrest, while patrolling near the Shaw’s grocery store on Washington Avenue on Monday at 12:18 pm.

They say an officer needed treatment after being hit in the head and scratched on the neck by Lavoie during his arrest. Police say the officer suffered a laceration on their head.

Lavoie is now accused of Assaulting an Officer and Refusing to Submit to Arrest and also has eight outstanding warrants. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
