PORTLAND (WGME) – Things are about to be a lot quieter in the greater Portland area.

The Portland Jetport’s main runway is set to reopen as planned Monday morning.

The two-month project is finishing on schedule and flightpaths will return to normal.

That means the area under the takeoff and landing paths for the secondary runway will be much quieter in time for summer.

People in Scarborough, Windham and other towns along the path have had an uptick in noise since April 18.

The closure was expected to take eight weeks, and the Jetport is staying true to their word.

After 56 days, 34,000 tons of asphalt, 500 new LED lights, the $13.7 million project is finishing within budget.

No taxpayer dollars were used, as the money comes from the Airport and Airways Trust Fund.

The next step of the master plan happens next year when they make taxiway improvements.
