Portland man in critical condition following assault in Deering Oaks Park

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Police in Portland are investigating an assault in Deering Oaks Park.

Police say a 52-year-old Portland man was brought to Maine Medical Center in critical condition. Acquaintances called police around 2 A.M. Tuesday after the man became unresponsive.

Police say the incident happened Monday morning around 11 A.M. in a homeless camp between Deering Oaks and the I-295 off-ramp onto Forest Avenue. They’re investigating to determine the circumstances that led to the assault.

Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
