Portland police say they’ve seen an alarming increase in OUI arrests so far this year, and it’s not just drunk drivers.

Data released Thursday showed that between January 1st and April 13th, Portland PD recorded 84 OUI arrests, 19 of which involved crashes. Last year, there were 41, and in 2019 there were 49.

They say of those 84 arrests, 13 involved the use of drugs like opioids, methamphetamine, Xanax, cough medicine, and marijuana.

With recreational marijuana now legal in the state, the department is reminding residents that getting behind the wheel while high is not.
