Police in Portland are searching for a suspect involved in an alleged attack.

A witness told police a 24-year-old woman was attacked from behind and struck with a club or blunt object near 250 Brackett Street late Tuesday night while walking home from work. The call came in to police around 10:25 p.m.

The woman was treated at the scene and later taken to the hospital.

The witness told police the attacker was a tall, thin white man. They were wearing a gray hoodie and a ball cap and were last seen running away on Carleton Street.

Portland PD say attacks like these are rare in the city, but remind residents to stay alert and try to stick to well-lit areas when walking alone at night.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
