Portland police say it appears that two individuals tried to lure school-aged children into their vehicles in separate incidents this week. In a press release Thursday morning, police called the incidents “troubling.”

On Monday morning, a 10-year-old boy was walking on Congress St. towards the Reiche School, when a black man in his 20s or 30s approached the boy and offered him a ride.

The boy said “no,” and the man drove away in a light blue or white sedan.

Then on Wednesday, a 17-year-old student was walking home from Waynflete School on Spring St., when an older white man with a scruffy beard, red coat and winter hat approached him in a Honda minivan.

Police say the man insinuated that he could give the boy a ride, but the boy continued into his nearby driveway and into his home.

Investigators are trying to identify the men, and they’re encouraging parents to remind their children to never take rides from strangers.

Anyone with information about the incidents is ask to contact Portland police.
