Portland’s school board will be discussing plans to allow in-person learning for some high schoolers, citing lower coronavirus case numbers.
The board issued a statement Wednesday, saying there was no specific timetable to allow those students back in the classroom, but they plan to make every effort to enable all students to attend school in person for at least part of the week before the school year ends.
“We believe it is safe to cautiously move forward at this point even without vaccinations of our educational staff, for which there is unfortunately no specific timetable at this time,” the statement read.
According to the Portland Press Herald, superintendent Xavier Botana is set to discuss those plans with the school board at a meeting February 23rd.
They say it’s likely those plans will involve regular testing of students and faculty.
