School officials in Portland say they will not go forward with a recommendation to dismiss a teacher accused of punching a student.

Jemal Murph is a teacher and Athletic Director at Lincoln Middle School who was accused of punching a student on a playground last October.

The school district planned to hold an executive session Friday night, but the meeting was called off.

In a statement, the Portland Board of Public Education said it had reached an agreement with Murph and his union that “recognizes the seriousness of the situation and also Mr. Murph’s past contribution to Portland Public Schools.”
