Portland schools are starting to take it upon themselves to help with the bus driver shortage by training their own drivers.

The Portland Adult Education’s Transportation Careers Program is a 12-week course that provides students with intensive instruction that includes how to drive a bus, doing vehicle inspections, and answering over 1,100 questions on assorted tests.

Our partners at CBS 13 report that the program is open to anyone.

Other graduates of the program have also gone on to drive trucks for other companies such as Allagash Brewing, AAA, VIP Coach, and more.
