A man is dead after an overnight shooting in Portland.

Police responded to Woodford St. just after 1 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of an argument between a group of people and the sound of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman in the roadway, both had been shot.

Officers rendered aid to the victims until they were both transported to Maine Medical Center.

A press release from the Portland Police Dept. said the man succumbed to his injuries, while the woman’s injuries were non-life threatening.

The investigation led to the closure of Woodford St. between Forest Ave. and Melrose St.

Police are calling on the public to help them with the investigation, asking anyone with information on the shooting to give them a call.
