Baxter Boulevard in Portland is expected to reopen soon.

Weather permitting, the city says paving is expected to be finished during the week of Mon., July 24.

Baxter Blvd. has been closed for more than two years from Vannah Ave. to Payson Park.

The Portland Press Herald reports that the road has been closed as crews install a more than 2-million-gallon underground storage system.

The project aims to keep untreated storm- and wastewater from flowing into Casco Bay, which can happen during heavy rain.

Work was supposed to be completed in 2021, but was delayed for several reasons, including value engineering aimed at reducing the cost of the project.
