Post office burns on Peaks Island

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Several mainland fire departments have responded to a fire inside the Peaks Island post office.

WCSH-TV reports the fire took place Monday at the Peak’s Island Post Office and was put down in the early afternoon. The Portland Fire Department and several other mainland departments responded to the fire.

The extent of the damage wasn’t immediately known.

Smoke was visible from Portland, which is three miles away.

The post office is near the island’s ferry terminal and it’s small commercial area.
