Maine Sen. Susan Collins says a postal service facility in Hampden will remain open.

The senator’s office says Postmaster General Louis DeJoy confirmed in a phone call Monday that plans to relocate mail processing operations from the distribution center in Hampden are no longer necessary.

He said that savings created by USPS’s revised plans mean there will not be any impact to employment at the Hampden facility.

Sen. Collins praised the decision, saying the earlier plans to consolidate facilities in Scarborough and Hampden “would have jeopardized the reliable delivery of mail.”
