The power grid is expected to hold up during Tuesday’s extreme heat and humidity.

Portland is now under an extreme heat warning for most of the day, and New England grid operator ISO is expecting peak usage of 25,310 megawatts between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

ISO reports total generation available on Tuesday will be 29,195 megawatts, so it won’t likely be under threat of failure.

However, usage will be high. By comparison, ISO forecast nearly 24,000 megawatts of power would be used Monday during peak usage, up from 20,693 megawatts on Sunday.

Central Maine Power released tips to deal with the heat Monday. The include:

Raise your A/C a few degrees when you’re out (unless you have a heat pump—then “set it and forget it”!)
🌞 Block the sun—close curtains or shades on hot days
🛠️ Seal the leaks—keep the cool air in and the hot air out!
Small changes = big savings.
