A priest who was accused of sexual abuse was assigned to a new parish in Auburn on Monday.

Rev. Robert Vaillancourt was placed on leave in 2021 while the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland investigated a woman’s claims that abuse occurred decades ago.

According to the Portland Press Herald, a second woman later came forward, making similar accusations.

However, the diocese said last summer after a year-long investigation that both claims were unsubstantiated.

He is now serving as a priest at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Auburn.

Vaillancourt was serving several midcoast area churches when he was placed on leave.
