The winter sports season at Maine high schools has been postponed.

The season was originally set to begin November 16th.

The Maine Principal’s Association said Tuesday they’re still working with the state to establish safety guidelines, like the use of face shields.

Another issue had to with the use of facilities, with many schools using gyms as classrooms and cafeterias during the day. The MPA said it’s not reasonable to expect school staff to move equipment out of gyms every day for teams to practice or play games in.

A new start date for winter sports has not been announced.
