AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A prosecutor says a man charged with murder in Maine continued to beat the victim even after the person gave up heroin demanded from him.

Aubrey Armstrong, of New York City, is on trial in Augusta.

Police say the killing happened in 2015. Officers arrived to signs of a struggle in Augusta and found Joseph Marceau’s body with his hands and feet bound.

Two other defendants who reached a plea agreement with prosecutors await sentencing. Another suspect killed herself in jail.

The Portland Press Herald reports defense attorney Brad Grant didn’t make an opening statement on Tuesday. He said he will wait until the start of the defense portion of the trial.
