Protesters March for Gun Control in Portland

Portland, Maine — “Enough is enough!” That’s what protesters of every age group chanted Saturday during the March For Our Lives event in Portland. The march, which took place in cities across the world in response to the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida last month, was organized to demand stricter gun control.

Cape Elizabeth Schools teacher Allison Hawkes showed up to protect her students. She told WMTW that her classroom is on the ground floor and she thinks about all the things she might do in the event of an attacker. “I think about sending my kids out the window. I think about locking the door. I think about standing by the door and trying to attack someone as they come in. I think about all those things.”

Protest Organizer Hamdia Ahmed told the Portland Press Herald she estimated between 4,000 and 5,000 people showed up to the protest in Portland.
