Public witness hearings took place Tuesday to address accusations of overspending on storm clean-up by Central Maine Power.

CMP is seeking $117 million in costs related to 23 storms in 2022.

According to CBS 13 news, Maine’s Office of the Public Advocate says CMP exceeded staffing guidelines in 12 of those storms. They’re seeking to withhold more than $53 million in storm costs.

CMP calls the move “outrageous and irresponsible” and said restoring power would have taken much longer if it stuck to those non-binding standards.
