A New Jersey woman was airlifted out of Baxter State Park after suffering a serious leg injury.

The park says the 26-year-old woman was hiking with three other people down Doubletop Mountain on Tuesday afternoon when she injured her lower leg. She remained on the mountain with a companion while the other two members of her party made their way to Kidney Pond and contacted park rangers.

The woman, who hasn’t been identified, was carried off the mountain by a Forest Service helicopter using a suspended line. She was taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital.

Her condition wasn’t immediately available.
