PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Most electricity customers in southern and central Maine will see higher electricity rates starting Jan. 1.
The Portland Press Herald reports that the cost of power will go about 14 percent for such customers.
The Maine Public Utilities Commission approved Monday to raise the standard offer rate for 2019 from 7.9 cents per kilowatt hour to nine cents.
The new rates affect most Central Maine Power customers who don’t buy their electricity from a competitive supplier.
The average home electric bill for CMP customers is about $88 each month. The new standard offer rates will raise the average monthly bill to about $94.
