Readfield schools closed on Halloween due to threat

Police are investigaitng a threat of violence at a school in Kennebec County.

Police say the threat against Maranacook Community High School in Readfield came via an ananonymous text message.

RSU 38 superintendent Jay Charette announced over the weekend that the high school and middle school would be closed Monday out of an adundance of caution.

On Sunday, Charette said school leaders still hadn’t decided whether the schools would reopen Tuesday.

Charette said that after being made aware of the threat, all school activities were cancelled, including Sunday evening’s haunted Halloween walk.

Students or other individuals who may have information about the threat are being asked to come forward with that information.
