Reduced supply rate to help Mainers with rising electric bills

Maine Public Utilities Commission approved a reduction in electricity companies ‘standard offer’ supply rates Friday, which will go into effect July 15th. Mainers will still see an increase in their electric bills, but the cost won’t be as much as originally predicted.

According to The Portland Press Herald, the reduction isn’t enough to reduce anyone’s electric bill, which was already set to increase over $10 per month on July 1st. The cut, however, will save the average customer of Central Maine Power (CMP) or Versant around $5.50 per month.

The reduction only applies to residential, small- and medium-sized customers of CMP or Versant Power’s Bangor Hydro district paying the standard offer supply rate.
