BANGOR, Me (WGAN) – The head of the Maine democratic party is asking the party’s candidate for the Cumberland county district attorney to withdraw from the race.

The Bangor Daily News reports that party chairman Phil Bennett has asked Jon Gale to withdraw from the race.

Bennett gave no reason but the BDN says Gale left his job with Unum in 2004 amid an investigation of sexual misconduct involving several female workers.

Gale denies any wrong doing and said he will not withdraw from the race.

He is opposed by Assistant D-A Jonathan Sarbeck, an independent.
