Maine’s third-largest ski resort enjoyed its busiest three-day stretch ever over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Saddleback Mountain near Rangeley says Sunday was also its busiest single day in the resort’s 65-year history.

The New England ski season has been strong so far, with early snow and good conditions, especially at higher elevations.

Saddleback was ranked the number one ski resort in the East for 2025 by the SKI magazine Reader Poll.

The magazine characterizes Saddleback as an independent-minded ski area that values the local community and prioritizes the on-slope ski experience.

Its strengths are listed as its groomed slopes and good lifts, while access and lodging are considered the resort’s weaknesses.
Saddleback has 600 skiable acres, with 66 trails, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 2,000 feet.
Comparatively, the much larger Killington resort in Vermont has 155 trails, 22 lifts, and a vertical drop of 3,050 feet.
Maine ski resorts generally live in the shadow of more high-profile destinations in Vermont.
