Sanford Man Arrested After Police Chase

LYMAN, Maine (WGAN)  State Police have charged a young Sanford man after a chase last night in Lyman.

Police say 25-year-old Gregory Cote is charged with eluding a police officer and is being held at the York County Jail.  Cote is also being held on several probation violation charges.

Police say Trooper James MacDonald pulled over Cote’s SUV on Beech Street for vehicle defects and the SUV then took off. Cote lead the trooper over three miles until the pursuit ended on the South Waterboro Road.

Along the way the SUV was swerving and was braking erratically before the trooper used a “PIT” maneuver with his cruiser that forced the SUV off the road.

Cote complained of a back injury but the hospital could not find anything wrong with him and he was taken to jail.

A woman passenger in Cote’s SUV was not injured.

Cote had a suspended driver’s license and admitted to the trooper that he had used methamphetamine earlier in the night, according to police.
