School Distances Itself From Political Mailer Using its Logo

BREWER, Maine (AP) A Maine school department has distanced itself from a GOP mailer using the school’s logo.

The House Republican Fund mailer was in support of Republican state Rep. Garrel Craig’s re-election, and featured the logo of the Brewer Witches. The Bangor Daily News reports the Brewer School Department says it does not endorse any candidate or party.

Superintendent Cheri Towle said Tuesday that officials will seek trademark status on the school logo to prevent it from happening again.

Craig says he was unaware of the mailer until he received it in the mail. Towle says she put out the notice to let parents know that the House Republican Fund had not asked permission to use the logo.

Craig is running for re-election against Democrat Archie Verow.
