BATH, Maine (WGAN) Bath Iron Works says a second employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

The company says the person was last on the property on March 31st, and that everyone who may have come in contact with the individual has been informed. The company said the area where the employee worked is being sanitized.

Another employee tested positive on March 22nd, and had last worked at the shipyard on March 13th.

The shipyard has faced pressure from the local union to shutter operations to prevent the spread of the virus among it’s 8,000 workers. Officials say the shipyard must remain operational because it’s considered critical infrastructure.

Only 41% of the shipyard’s workers clocked in on March 24th after the first confirmed case was made public.
