Maine Independent Senator Angus King is continuing his vocal narrative against the Trump administration’s actions.

Thursday he focused on the firing of federal employees and the freezing of grant money.

“It’s not a rational process,” said King. “It’s ready, fire, aim. Literally, ready, fire, aim is what we’re talking about. And people aren’t doing this in a thoughtful, systematic way.”

King mentioned federal employees, such as National Park and Veteran’s Administration workers, who were fired and then rehired in recent days.

He also criticized Elon Musk’s “fork in the road” letter targeting all workers at agencies to retire or risk being fired.

King has spoken out against attempts by Musk and his team to access sensitive information and has voted against all of President Trump’s cabinet nominations.

In a floor speech Thursday, King said many of President Trump’s actions have been an overreach of power.

“The responsibility of the President is to take care that the laws being faithfully executed, King said. “Not write the laws. Not deny the laws. Not ignore the laws. Not pick which laws he or she [likes. It is] to take care that the laws are faithfully executed. That’s the responsibility of the President. Right now, those laws are being ignored.”

Senator King has called President Trump an existential threat to the Constitution.
