Senator Susan Collins will vote to acquit President Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WGAN) Republican Senator Susan Collins says she will vote to acquit President Trump on both articles of impeachment against him, which allege abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Collins spoke on the Senate floor Tuesday, a day before a vote in the chamber to acquit or convict President Trump. In her speech, Collins says some of Trump’s actions, including mentioning the Bidens in a call with Ukraine’s prime minister, were “improper” but don’t rise to the level of an impeachable offense:

“I do not believe that the House has met its burden of showing that the president’s conduct, however flawed, warrants the extreme step of immediate removal from office.”

Collins and fellow Republican Senator Mitt Romney of Utah were the only members of their party to vote in favor of calling witnesses in the Senate’s impeachment trial.
