Shelter for asylum seekers to open in Portland’s Riverton neighborhood

A new shelter for asylum seekers will open Wednesday in Portland.

The 180-bed shelter is located inside a former beverage distribution building on Riverside Industrial Parkway.

With the new shelter opening, asylum seekers staying at the Homeless Services Center on Riverside St. will move out of that facility and into the new one.

City officials estimate that the move will free up about 120 beds at the Homeless Services Center.
