Traffic in the Maine Street area of Bangor has been snarled by a sinkhole.
The city reports that the two southbound lanes of Main Street, heading toward Hampden, are closed while repair work is being conducted, while the northbound lanes are reduced to one lane.
The work is expected to be complete by Wednesday.
The city says the cause of the sinkhole is not certain, but it may be related to an old stone sewer line that crosses Main Street in Bangor.
Railroad Street has also been closed during the repair work.
The City says it appreciates the patience of motorists traveling through the area.
