Sleet and freezing rain made life difficult for many Mainers on Friday.

Several crashes were reported on the Maine Turnpike as sleet and freezing rain made for slick road conditions.

Maine State Police said the most serious crash happened in Saco just before 1 p.m. A man from Quincy, Massachusetts is being treated for head injuries at Maine Medical Center after he skidded into the path of a delivery truck. Troopers said the man lost control of his car in passing lane and spun out in the path of the truck. The truck driver was not injured.

The Maine Turnpike Authority also reported crashes on the turnpike in Gray, Auburn and Lewiston.

Mixed precipitation throughout the day caused treacherous conditions on roads and highways, and was also responsible for thousands of outages, according to Central Maine Power. About 6,000 outages were reported in Cumberland County by 5 p.m. Friday, with 12,300 statewide.

Spectrum also reported service outages in Maine on Friday afternoon. The company said they were aware of the issue and looking to resolve it as soon as possible.
