SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) – The South Portland Police Department is searching for a robbery suspect after they allegedly displayed a threatening note and robbed a Key Bank.

At 11:49 a.m. on Friday, police responded to the Key Bank on Gorham Road in South Portland for a report of a robbery.

South Portland police say that the lone male suspect displayed a note that demanded cash and threatened that he had an explosive device. No weapon or device was actually displayed. The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, fleeing in a black Chevrolet Suburban.

Officials found that vehicle shortly after in a parking lot on John Roberts Road. The vehicle was unoccupied and was impounded by police for evidence processing. Officials believe the vehicle had been stolen by the suspect to use in the robbery.

Several professional office tenants were evacuated at a building on John Roberts Road for a time while officials determined if the suspect’s vehicle was safe.

At this time, detectives are continuing to investigate and officials are searching for the robbery suspect.

The suspect is being described as a white male, last seen wearing a black jacket, black mask, beanie style cap and sunglasses.

The South Portland Police Department says if anyone has any information or if they recognize the suspect, to please contact them.
