Southern and western Maine were dealing with significant power outages and downed power lines Thursday evening after numerous severe thunderstorms inland.
The Limington Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department reported a tree was down on power lines along Douglas Road. Downed trees were also reported in the towns of Acton, Denmark and Oxford.
Central Maine Power reported more than 9,200 customers without power at 6:30 pm Thursday, while Versant Power had about 2,500 at the same time.
All of southern Maine was under a Tornado Watch between roughly 1 pm and 6 pm in what the National Weather Service called a lot of “spin” in the air.
Tornadoes are fairly rare in Maine, as the state averages two tornadoes a year.
