A staff member at Old Orchard Beach High School has tested positive for coronavirus, according to school officials.

The Portland Press Herald reports that John Suttie, superintendent of RSU 23, was notified of the staff member’s positive test results by the Maine Center of Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday.

“Staff and students may have been exposed to the virus and we are informing you out of an abundance of caution,” a letter from the CDC said.

No further information about the staff member’s role at the school was immediately released.

Suttie said the CDC will contact people who had close contact with the person who tested positive.

Old Orchard Beach schools are closed until at least March 27, a step school department across Maine have taken to help prevent further spread of the virus.
