At least 30 inmates at the York County Jail are expected to be transferred to the Cumberland County Jail.

The Portland Press Herald reports the move will give York County Jail workers a break, after many were forced to work overtime due to a staffing shortage. It’s a temporary measure expected to last four months.

According to Cumberland County Manager Jim Gailey, inmates could be arriving in Portland in the next few weeks. He says no prisoners housed in maximum security will be transferred.
