Students, Parents, Alumni Look to Save Maine Girls’ Academy

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Students, parents, and alumni hosted a lemonade stand outside The Maine Girls’ Academy on Sunday. They’re hoping to raise money and awareness after an announcement last week that the school would close.

Many said they were shocked when they heard news. Former and current students say they are willing to work hard to keep school from closing.

The Maine Girl’s Academy is the only all-girls school left in state. 90 children are enrolled at the school.

In a letter sent to parents they cited low enrollment and financial reasons as large factors in the decision to close. The school’s last day will be July 15th.
