Summer Weather on the Horizon Following Cold and Rain

While the sun takes the sky today and tomorrow, Meteorologist Joe Lundberg says there are still a few more “bumps in the road” before the summer weather kicks in.

Thus far, total precipitation has nearly doubled May averages with temperatures a degree below average. The projected rain this weekend could send total precipitation over six inches of rain just this month.

As warm air circulates upward into the stratosphere, the jet stream has been sent down, pushing cold air and rain much farther south than typical for this time.

“We’ve had these big pools of cool air that have come down and brought us these chilly air masses and also bouts of rain,” said Lundberg in an interview with WGAN.

Luckily, this week could be one of the last affected. Lundberg notes a “decided warming trend” going into June. Next Tuesday is the projected start date for warmer weather.

“As we go into June, it’s finally going to actually feel like June,” said Lundberg.

As with any month, there may be some weather setbacks later in June, but Lundberg says even those will not match the extremes of April and May weather.
