(WGAN) An Oregon man was arrested after Maine State Police say found more than 2 pounds of cocaine in his car.

A Tuesday news release from the Maine Dept. of Public Safety said Winston Mcleod, 27, is charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, refusing to submit to arrest, operating a motor vehicle without a license and asset forfeiture.

The release said Mcleod was at B & A Variety on Auburn Road in Turner about 11:45 a.m. Monday, when a trooper tried to arrest him after a large amount of cocaine was found in his jacket pocket.

Police say Mcleod tried to run away but was captured after a brief chase.

Troopers say a search of the suspect’s car turned up 2.4 pounds of cocaine and $1,446 in suspected drug money.

He was being held Tuesday morning at the Androscoggin County Jail on $25,000 bail.
