Suspicious Device Located During Traffic Stop in Newcastle

The Maine State Police Bomb Team and Fire Marshall are investigating a suspicious device found in a car during a traffic stop in Newcastle this week.

Lincoln County deputies arrested a driver they pulled over on Main Street in Newcastle on an outstanding arrest warrant early Monday, but say they found what appeared to be an explosive device during a search of the vehicle.

The device was secured and removed for further evaluation, including a laboratory analysis.

Police are not identifying the driver who was arrested as an investigation continues.

State Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
