King Middle School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after police responded to a report of a suspicious device in Deering Oaks Park.

The Portland Police Dept. said shortly before 9 a.m. that its Hazardous Device Unit would try to determine if the device was dangerous and a threat to public safety.

Just before 10 a.m., police released an update saying it was determined that the device was not a threat.

Police did not immediately say where in the park the device was located.

The device also led to the closure of Deering Avenue.
