The Peaks to Portland swim Saturday was a success, even after a million gallons of partially treated sewage dumped into Casco Bay just a couple days prior.

Cheryl Daly of South Portland came out on top in the women’s division and John Stevens of Portland was named the winner for the sixth time in the men’s race.

According to the Portland Press Herald, some swimmers came all the way from Illinois and California to compete.

The quality of the water was tested Friday to ensure bacteria levels were low enough to swim in.
