Police say a 13-year-old girl is in critical condition after being pulled from the Androscoggin River.

According to CBS 13, the girl was swimming in Greene in the area of the river known as Cherry Pond on Monday. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office says the girl, who doesn’t know how to swim, went out too far and went under the water.

She was pulled from the water by a sheriff’s deputy and revived, then taken to Maine Medical Center where she was in critical condition.

Deputies said the girl was not wearing a life jacket.
